When the mains fails and an outage runs past the safe battery window, it gives connected servers and PCs time to save open work and shut down cleanly, then powers them back up in order when supply returns.
It is what turns battery runtime into protection for your data, not just your hardware.
From power failure to a clean shutdown
Four stages, automatic once the UPS is connected and Smart-Save is installed on the machines you want protected.
Step 1
Normal power
Utility mains is healthy. Connected servers and PCs run as usual; the UPS sits on standby.
Step 2
Power failure
The mains fails. The UPS instantly carries the load on battery and flags the event to every connected machine.
Step 3
Save work
As the safe battery window runs down, Smart-Save tells each machine to close files and save open work.
Step 4
Graceful shutdown
Systems power down cleanly, in order — no corrupted files and no unplanned reboots when power returns.
